There is a section where you can obtain information on various vehicles. Under the “My Car” section, you can create an account (for free at the present time). Using drop-down menus, you can enter information on your vehicle and find links to commonly reported problems, recalls and tech bulletins. You can “add a service” at the bottom of your card to keep track of your vehicle maintenance. If you have a moderate amount of computer skills, you can keep information on your vehicles in one of two ways:

Scanning Keeping the original of vehicle titles is very important. Keeping a scanned version on hand is great for back up purposes. I would recommend putting the originals in a safe deposit box or fireproof container. It is possible to obtain a lost title, but it requires extra time, work and money.

Many records can simply be scanned and kept in PDF format on your computer. You can create a folder for “Autos” and sub-folders for each vehicle and store the information there. You can even subdivide it by year (if you want to go that complex). Spreadsheets Some auto information can simply be kept on a spreadsheet. This can help you at tax time because all the information you need is in one easy location. While you can’t keep your car title on a spreadsheet, you can keep track of oil changes, fuel records, mileage, etc.

Automotive Information Services (AIS) provides statistics on new vehicle registrations through the Motor Vehicle Registration Information System (MVRIS) and vehicles in use through Motorparc.

As the industry and the environment in which it operates constantly change, so does the nature of information required. The AIS team works to maintain and improve existing data and introduce new services.

MVRIS and Motorparc produce standard and tailored reports for SMMT members and other customers. The information is also used by SMMT and others, to support and inform on major issues which affect the motor industry and the wider economy.

MVRIS: The Motor Vehicle Registration Information System (MVRIS) is the most comprehensive and authoritative source of new registration details in the UK. The database is the result of co-operation between the SMMT, vehicle manufacturers / importers and the DVLA.

The MVRIS team oversees the operation of the system, ensuring that registrations for cars, light commercial vehicles, heavy commercial vehicles, buses, coaches and taxis are collected each day. (Motorcycles and agricultural vehicles are outside the scope of MVRIS as these are handled by separate trade associations: MCIA and AEA respectively).

Motorparc: Motorparc is an annual census of all vehicles in use in Great Britain and Northern Ireland (including motorcycles, agricultural and special purpose vehicles).

DVLA provides details of all vehicles on the road. This data is then cleansed using corrections to individual records accumulated over many years. The data is also linked to MVRIS model information to provide more comprehensive reporting.

A new DVLA census and corresponding Motorparc database is created by May each year.

The Motor Vehicle Register was computerised in 1986 by NZ Post. Any vehicle with a live rego in 1988 will be on the current system (the MVR was copied to the current system in 1996). Between 1986 and 1988 Post deleted a small number of records but most 1986 live regos should also be available.

In many cases the chassis number recorded differs due to spaces, dashes etc – this was one of the reasons VINs were introduced. When these older vehicles with incomplete or vague history are presented to an inspector for registration, the NZTA will provide a search service to look for the old registration plate and record. This is only provided for the inspectors and will typically only be done when you present the car for re-registration. As there are some potential security issues if we inspection, VINing and document checking are not all done together.

My Audi A4 was stolen from my driveway the morning of the 19th @ 7.55am in Tyrrelstown Dublin 15.

I was putting clothes and bags in the car for my 2 sons and went to get the baby from my wife to put him in the car. I came out to see a stranger in the car (it took about 10 seconds to realise that there was someone actually in my car). As far as I remembered I had the keys in my pocket but they must have fell out.

I can’t help thinking about what might have happened had the baby been in the car when this happened. I have been living trouble-free in Tyrrelstown for 7 years. There is a sense of a great community spirit here and I would like to thank all of the neighbours from the Tyrrelstown forum for all their help and kind gestures.

Not only did I lose my car but I’ve had to have my house locks changed as well as the locks in my wife’s car (her spare key was on my keys). Baby’s bags, car seat, my eldest sons school bag with all his books in it, baby’s buggy, driving license, etc. all lost.

The Vehicle Identity Check (VIC) was introduced to help reduce vehicle crime. It is intended to deter criminals from disguising stolen cars with the identity of written off or scrapped vehicles.
When an insurance company writes off a car, the registration document (V5 logbook) is surrendered to them and destroyed. The insurance company will then notify the Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) that the vehicle has been written off. This notification will set a 'VIC marker' on the vehicle record on the DVLA database. If the vehicle is then repaired with the intention of returning it to the road, the DVLA will not issue a new registration document or vehicle excise duty licence until the car passes a vehicle identity check (VIC). The VIC is designed to help confirm that the vehicle being returned to the road has been repaired following any accident damage and has not been stolen. The Vehicle and Operator Services Agency (VOSA) will carry out the VIC. This will involve comparing the vehicle presented to VOSA against the information held by DVLA, such as the vehicle identification number VIN, make, model, colour and engine number. The VIC compares the record of previous accident damage with evidence of damage repair as well as checking other components to confirm the age and identity of the vehcile.

it comes to talking on a cell phone and driving it amounts to almost 25% of all accidents. A total of 1/5th of all adult drivers with experience in the United States will send a text message while they’re driving.

In the year 2008 there were almost 6,000 people killed and another 500,000 that were injured directly related to crashes where the driver was distracted. In that same year at any one time during the daylight hours there were over 800,000 vehicles on the road that were being driven by someone that was using a cell phone.

The statistics are staggering, some additional ones are:

• 80% of accidents, or 4 out of every 5, are directly attributed to distracted drivers

• In stark contrast only 33%, or 1 out of 3, accidents are attributed to drunk drivers

• Texting and driving is 6xs more likely than drunk driving to result in an accident

• People that text and drive are 23% more likely to be involved in a car accident

A Nationwide Insurance survey, released 2007, of dangerous driver behavior found the following statistics out of 1,200 drivers surveyed:

• 73% talk in their cell phone when driving

• 19% of drivers state that they text and drive

Back in 2005 it was found that 10% of drivers are on either a handheld or hands free cell phone at any one hour of the day. That information is according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

Additionally:

• Drivers that use their cell phones while they drive are 4xs more likely to get in an accident that is severe enough to injure themselves according to a study by the Insurance for Highway Safety Motorists

• An older study in 2002 by the Harvard Center for Risk Analysis estimated that there are 2,600 cell phone related deaths a year and another 330,000 are injured (due to the explosion of cell phones it is likely that this number is now much higher)

•

Even though almost all Americans do agree and believe that using a cell phone and texting while driving are two of the most possibly dangerous things to do from all of the behaviors from behind a wheel 81% of them still admit that they’re making calls when they’re driving.

The numbers of both crashes and near crashes that are directly linked to dialing are virtually identical to the numbers that are associated with talking or listening. Although dialing is more dangerous it occurs less often than listening or talking.

Studies show that texting and driving causes a staggering 400% increase in the time spent with someone’s eyes off of the road.

The numbers are unfortunate and the numbers also don’t lie. It’s time that something is done to get the 81% to realize that they are engaging in bad behavior. But wait, they already admit that. Unfortunately when it comes to thinking about what can actually be done there are only more questions than answers.

Too Far, You Went There: The TRON Audi R8

West Coast Customs teamed up with Monster Cables (WTF?!) to produce a TRON-themed Audi R8 because -- well -- I don't know why. Something about poor decision making and overpriced wires.

The car itself is an Audi R8, a car whose electric version has graced the digital pages of CNET UK once before, thanks to its clever wireless-charging capabilities. Very sneaky stuff.

This version of the R8, however, isn't quite so subtle -- with glowing rims, glowing vents, a glowing back seat and a chrome finish so perfectly reflective that you can check your hair and makeup in the car's bonnet. All the glowing bits gradually fade through a series of colours too, for added Tron-style excellence.

Those clever West Coast Customs lads have certainly done a good job adhering to the source material, even if this car is so shiny it's not likely to be road legal -- imagine catching an eyeful of your own headlights reflected in this beast...

Too shiny to be street legal? Well there goes my mirror-car! Seriously, it just drove by. Should probably stop leaving my keys in the ignition. But you know what they say, "hindsight's 20/20". Unless your looking in your rearview and my mirror-car's behind you, IN WHICH CASE THAT SHIT IS BLINDING.

Want to impress your friends and possibly score a girlfriend? How about purchasing this sweet-ass "Fastlane" car of the future? You can "Buy It Now" on eBay for a cool $15,000. But before you push the button: It's not really a car. It's a shell designed to fit on top of a Pontiac Fiero. Which is not included in the auction. So, yeah. It was designed for Universal Pictures by concept car maker Trans FX for use in a movie or something. I know it can't actually go anywhere, but I still think I want it. I'll just use a flatbed trailer to tote it to the bar and then slide it off into a parking spot. Then I'll proceed to get some lucky lady extremely drunk and ask if she wants to see my fancy sports car from the future. Hopefully she won't notice there's not a goddamn thing inside and will still make out with me while we're sitting on the pavement inside. What, where's my sense? I'll throw a tarp down. I may even add a boombox for some makeout tunage.

LISAROW railway station is a “pig sty” and in need of urgent maintenance.

The Entrance State Labor candidate David Mehan said the station was a “disgrace”.

“I’ve spent the past week visiting all the state rail stations in The Entrance electorate and can confidently say that Lisarow station is a disgrace,” he said,

“We need to encourage greater useage of public transport.

“Lisarow station can only discourage in its condition.”

He said when he visited the station the railings were broken and dangerous, there was an abandoned car, overgrown vegetation which blocked car parking access and rubbish strewn everywhere.

He said he would contact Transport Minister John Robertson, who was also the Central Coast Minister, in a bid to get the station cleaned up.

While Lisarow rated an F, Mr Mehan praised the recent upgrade of Ourimbah railway station.

“Our stations are pretty good and the recent upgrading of Ourimbah has been well received,” he said. “I note that extra parking is needed at Narara and I’ll also be raising this with the minister.”

Indus Motor raises car rates by Rs 25,000-35,000

LAHORE - The Indus Motor Company has decided to raise the retail prices of all Corolla variants by Rs 25,000 while Altis price will be increased by Rs 35,000, translating into about 2 per cent jump on all the models.

The decision came following the unprecedented strengthening of the Yen which is presently at a 15-year high against major currencies, making the imported CKD as well as local parts more costly as most of the raw materials are also imported.

The Indus Motor Company, which has been absorbing most of the costs reducing its profit, has now announced to increase its car prices with immediate effect, said a statement issued on Wednesday.

It was stated that the Corolla prices remained unchanged from February 2010, while during this period the Pakistan rupee has depreciated by 8 per cent against yen and the company has been absorbing that cost over the last few months.

Extensive flooding in the country has also taken a severe toll on the car sales and has further added to the misery of an industry already plagued with the above inflationary pressures, it added.

The new prices will be applicable to all future orders and deliveries.

Parents given tips on fitting children's car seats

Swansea Council's Road Safety and Trading Standards teams will be giving out help and advice to parents at a special 'Child Car Seat' day held at Tesco Extra in Fforestfach.

Officers will be on hand to carry out safety checks to seats already fitted and also advise on the type of child restraint or booster seat parents are required to use.

Jeff Green, Swansea Council's Road Safety Officer said, "We're hoping to give parents useful advice on what restraints they should be using when children are travelling in their car with them.

"Every year, around 30 children between the age of 0 and eleven years are killed while travelling in cars. 400 more are seriously injured and over 7,000 suffer slight injuries. The proper use of child car restraints would prevent many of these deaths and injuries."

Road safety officers will also be joined by officers from the Council's Trading Standards Team who will provide further guidance on the right type of seat parents need to buy.

David Picken, Swansea Council's Trading Standards Officer said, "New regulations introduced last year require all children under twelve to use a suitable child restraint. It's vital that parents purchase the correct seat or restraint and that it is fitted properly. These measures will help keep children safer when they are travelling in a vehicle.

"Reputable retailers will advise on the correct seat for your vehicle and on the proper fitting of seats."

Swansea Council Officers will be at Tesco Extra, Pontarddulais Road, Fforestfach on Wednesday 28 February between 9am and 4.30pm.
